In February five people were killed in Aurora, Illinois, when a man being let go from his job opened fire at the Henry Pratt Co. in the Chicago suburb. During the termination meeting, the gunman took out a pistol and began killing people.

6. The emergency services can’t always reach the scene in time

Last summer, a British Airways engineering died at Heathrow airport after a car
crash. The paramedics took over an hour to reach the scene. The engineers family say the response of emergency services played a role in his death.

7. Workplace incidents are statistically on the rise

In a recent survey, 48% of workers said their organisations have experienced an incident of workplace violence at some point, up from the 36% who reported this during a similar survey that was conducted in 2012.
