Is Covid19 the only event we need to prepare for?

As the lockdown eases to varying degrees across the world, and we begin to raise our heads above the parapet to peek towards a future of hugging loved ones again and attending events, there remain groups of people who care little about such things. They are consumed with rage, and fear and radicalism, and a passion for revenge, and a burning desire to be noticed.

Whilst our ‘new normal’ will be achieved with social distancing and PPE, theirs will be achieved with terror and their own version of ‘shock and awe’.

So, whilst you are planning on how to defeat a macrobiotic threat, and fill your stadia, arena and festival venue, do not forget the threat you were faced with prior to the global pandemic.

TyTek Medical is a manufacturer of compact, pre-hospital emergency medical supplies for trauma care. Our proven emergency medical products were engineered for military medics to provide emergency first aid, and are now used all over the world.

Your Emergency Preparedness Plan is the actions you would take in the event of an emergency to preserve life. Developing a plan can dramatically reduce the loss of life in those initial critical moments during and after an event. Often in such events, emergency services aren't on-site or immediately available and a simple well thought out plan can offer some peace of mind should the unthinkable happen.

Do you have a comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Plan? Ask yourself these questions to ensure you have covered all bases.

  • Have you calculated the safe capacity of your venue? This is very different from the number of seats or total capacity?
  • Have you established collaborative multi-agency relationships to ensure a joined-up approach to safety, security and customer service? (e.g. emergency services, local authorities, transport, venue management)
  • Have you got the right balance between security (e.g. counter-terrorism), safety (e.g. stewarding) and service (e.g. communications, signage)? Are these different functions joined up effectively?
  • Are your safety professionals sufficiently trained to ensure the safety of those attending?
  • What digital safety measures are you considering?
  • How do your digital safety procedures provide cost-effective, safer, faster, more resilient communications in a crisis?
  • How confident are you that your plan matches your reality and that your people can carry it out, under pressure, and record what they need to for post-event scrutiny and analysis?
  • Have you identified component and functional readiness activities including test events within departments and venues and means to test these ahead of integrated and more complex readiness activity?
  • Have your key roles been mapped against required competencies and with a clear professional development plan for knowledge, skills and judgement required for each key role?
